Marietta man sentenced to 30 years for online child pornography - A Marietta man was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for coercing teenage boys to produce sexually-explicit images of themselves and send them to him over the Internet.
Michael Macaluso, 38, was convicted in December of getting at least two boys to send him nude photos and sexually-explicit masochistic videos. He will have to register as a sex offender and spend the rest of his life under supervision after his prison term.
“This defendant personifies what should frighten every parent ... : someone masquerading on internet social media, such as Facebook and MySpace, as an innocent, curious teenager looking to make new friends. Does anyone know if he is in Federal Prison yet ? He should be put in a supermax as he is supposed to be very athletic. I picture hum scaling walls and escaping and doing this again with other kids. Shortly after he ended the conversation. And then before I had time to gather my thoughts I saw a message saying 'You have had a serious complaint made against you...'
Never did I hint at being interested or did I want any sort of encounter. I dont have any inclination towards young boys or girls.. never have, never will.
After this shock I registered exactly what happenned on the Report Abuse page. Later on, after reading about chat site sting operations, I realised this must have been some sort of entrapment. And the next day while I was logged on to the site sipping coffee, a uniformed male appeared on the webcam and a printed message which I vaguely recall mentioned 'a video recording would be used as evidence against me on a serious charge....'
Now I feel numb and at a loss as I did nothing more than innocently ask concerned questions to a young boy who i thought could possibly have been a victim of abuse....
Never for a split second have I harboured an indecent thought for a child and I was being set-up to be potentialy charged. So take heed and beware of a webcam site called ChatRandom.... And to those who are active in pursuing and rooting out evil child abusers, I say,'Carry on the good work, but remember not everyone who chats to a child is a potential abuser'..
In retrospect its easy to say I should have reported him immediately...and not have been led into conversation so easily, but his was new territory for me and I guess I was naive.... but when it's an adult cleverly composing questions and answers, believe me its easy to be drawn in, especially when there is a sad young face staring at you...
If at any time I am contacted and questionned I know I can account for what I did. But the process, the questions into my private life, ...and then there's my new job.
